The joint program offers a specially designed educational experience for students aiming for careers in the creative industries. This program allows students to complete their education in TÜRKİYE and then pursue advanced studies and career opportunities in Canada.

For those dreaming of entering the entertainment arts but lacking a sufficient portfolio, the BAU and CEA joint foundation program provides an excellent opportunity. This group of comprehensive four month courses prepares students for successful careers in creative industries, blending online and face-to-face learning experiences.

Within the BAU and CEA joint foundation program, Turkish students are offered advanced education and work opportunities in Canada. This includes training in advanced 3D animation, 3D modeling, advanced visual effects, game development, and visual arts. After completing their education in TÜRKİYE, students will have the chance to shape their careers internationally in Canada. Students completing their education at CEA can obtain a work permit in Canada for up to three years, offering them the opportunity to pursue international careers.

Fundamentals of Film Production focuses on Directing, Producing, and Cinematography. This program builds foundational skills in these domains, integrating historical insights with cutting-edge industry technology. Students explore the key aspects of live-action filmmaking, gaining practical knowledge and understanding the evolution and current trends in film production. Ideal for aspiring filmmakers, it offers a comprehensive introduction to the essentials needed for a career in the industry, combining traditional techniques with modern advancements to prepare students for future opportunities.

Fundamentals of Film Production

  • • In this foundational course, you will delve into film production's core principles and techniques.

    • You will cover every major department involved in a film's development, pre-production, production, and post-production.

    • Through hands-on experiences, you will develop an understanding of the technical skills essential for filmmaking, including camera operation, lighting, sound recording, and directing.

  • • Embark on a captivating journey as you study the works of renowned directors who shaped their respective eras.

    • By analysing the most influential films and the visionary filmmakers behind them, you will gain profound insights into the evolution of cinematic language and storytelling techniques.

    • Through critical examination and discussions, you will trace the artistic legacies of these masters and their enduring impact on contemporary filmmaking.

  • • Explore the intricate art of cinematic storytelling with a keen focus on visual expression.

    • Develop a familiarity with visual storytelling to identify powerful film conventions as they appear in a broad spectrum of movies.

    • Learn how the script and screenplay are represented as images on screen.

    • Develop a familiarity with the tools a Cinematographer uses to tell the visual story.

  • • Understand the complete history of narrative filmmaking.

    • How the film industry evolved internationally and influenced the Global market.

    • Understand how the art and craft of filmmaking have been influenced by its reciprocal relationship with the industry's business side.

Course Descriptions

The Fundamentals of VFX, Animation, and Modelling course teaches students to create realistic invisible effects and understand asset creation, both in surface details and structural mechanics. Students learn to animate with purpose, making elements like cloth or hair move independently yet naturally. The program combines practical projects with technical studies, offering a deep dive into compositing, 3D animation, modelling, and texturing. This foundation equips students with the skills to develop compelling visual effects and animations for a career in these dynamic fields.

Fundamentals of VFX, Animation, and Modelling

Course Descriptions

  • As one of the fundamentals of VFX, students will be introduced to the industry-leading software Maya, Premiere, and Photoshop. Using this software, students will learn the basics of modelling, texturing, lighting, animation, and editing.

  • The animation fundamentals will be introduced to students using the 3D software Maya. Students will explore exercises such as the classic bouncing ball, the pendulum swing, and basic character walks, runs and jumps. This course forms the foundation for the Character Animation courses in later terms.

  • This course is a foundational exploration of the dynamic world of visual effects (VFX). Students will embark on a journey through the evolution of VFX, understanding its historical significance and contemporary applications in various industries, including film and television. Students will delve into the essential principles and techniques underpinning the VFX pipeline through theoretical discussions, hands-on exercises, and practical demonstrations. They will gain proficiency in key areas such as compositing utilising industry-standard software platforms like Nuke.

  • The principles of digital photography will be explored through the eyes of a DSLR camera. These principles will then be applied to the Visual Effects pipeline. This includes composition, exposure, depth-of-field, motion, and the study of light. Students will transfer their knowledge from their DSLR cameras into Maya, replicating lighting and static camera setups in a digital, 3D space.

The Fundamentals of Game Development course introduces students to the core aspects of game creation: art, design, programming, and production. Students will engage in hands-on projects, crafting assignments and games to understand and apply key principles. They’ll learn to design captivating game mechanics, build interactive environments, and program dynamic gameplay elements. This comprehensive approach equips students with the essential skills for a career in game development, providing a practical understanding of the entire game creation process from concept to completion.

Fundamentals of Game Development

  • Students learn the fundamental elements of programming in C#. Students will learn about variables, functions, loops, arrays and object-oriented programming. Students will learn about physics, animation, and handling player input. Using Unity and C#, students will learn how to make a small game from scratch.

  • Students will discover the fundamentals of video game asset creation using industry-standard tools. In this course, students will create a game-ready environment and props in Maya and craft textures and materials in Photoshop and Substance Painter. These assets will then be brought forward to present in a portfolio setting.

  • Students will learn advanced features of the Unreal Engine and apply their knowledge of programming, art and design to create more technically inclined content, such as advanced AI, gameplay objects, terrain, foliage, physics objects, particle effects, and more. Each will be a piece for their technical design and technical art portfolio.

  • Students will learn the fundamentals of game design and development by deep diving into core game design theory and principals such as game feel, player psychology, choice, and more. Throughout the course, students will produce design documents that familiarize them with the process of turning their creative ideas into tangible work.
